* Teaching the Cold War through a Second World War context

In this essay for the Scottish Association for Teachers of History (SATH) Yearbook 2022, Jessica Douthwaite considers how to teach the end of one era and beginning of another in schools without diminishing the contextual interplay between the two. Focusing on the years that bridge Second World War and Cold War histories she offers three sources that teachers can use in the classroom to explore how the Second World War coloured and outlined early Cold War attitudes and competition. Jessica suggests that these sources can help pupils to better understand the worldview of those in the post-war West and consequently more fully grasp the context in which suspicion between East and West developed.
